Our Story

Woodrow Handcrafts was established in Mary Street, Gympie in January 1973. This was a continuation of the Woodrow families other businesses in Gympie where they had owned and operated general stores, draperies and various other businesses in the area since the discovery of Gold in the Gympie region.

On the 20th of  March 2006 Robyn, Tom, Peter and Katrina Kross purchased the business from Debbie Mercer and Leonie Kyle, the business at that time was located at 230 Mary Street. In August 2006 the business was relocated to its current position at 180 Mary Street.

On the 4th of September 2006, after the birth of Peter and Katrina’s first daughter Emelia on the 2nd of September, the business was expanded to include a Janome sewing machine dealership. This expansion was achieved by purchasing Cooloola Sewing Machines from Sue and Clayton King, who then continued to work for Woodrows until August 2008 when they decided to go back into business for themselves by opening Kings Sewing Center at 230 Mary Street.

Since owning the business Peter, Katrina and Robyn have pursued their passion for Art, Craft and Sewing and further educated themselves in the field. Peter now services all our machines in store and regularly attends technical training with Janome, so that he can stay up to date with all the latest machine service procedures and techniques.

Katrina also regularly attends sewing, quilting and garment construction courses and is currently undertaking a pattern design and drafting course.
