Bobbins: They Aren’t All The Same

Not all bobbins were created equal.

Contrary to what some believe, you should be using a bobbin purchased from the manufacturer of your sewing machine. We sell Janome and Elna sewing machines, which means we sell genuine bobbins purchased from Janome and Elna that are specific for their sewing machines.

The bobbins may fit in a brother, pfaff, husqvarna or singer, but that doesn’t mean they will result in good stitches.

The reason for this is that each brands bobbin has a slightly different shape  and don’t even think about trying a generic bobbin, bought from a big box seller, there is no such thing as a generic bobbin to fit all sewing machines.

Below is a picture of 5 different bobbins from above, they all look about the same size, don’t they.

Now have a look at the next picture down, this is a picture of the same 5 bobbins from the front, massive difference. The 2 bobbins on the left are being sold as generic bobbins to suit Janome, Elna, Brother, Husqvarna and Singer sewing machines. The bobbin in the middle is for select Brother models, the bobbin second from the right is for selected Singer models and the bobbin first on the right is the bobbin you need for all current Janome and Elna sewing machines.

A Janome bobbin, from a reputable Janome dealer, is exactly the right size and shape to give you a great stitch with a Janome sewing machine.

We retail Janome bobbins for $1 each.

There are numerous problems we have seen from people using non-Janome bobbins in their Janome sewing machines

  • skipped stitches
  • tension problems
  • thread knotting/ bunching
  • timing issues with their machine
  • bobbin case needing to be replaced because it has jumped out of alignment and been hit by the hook

All of these can be very expensive fixes, that could all be solved by using a $1 genuine Janome bobbin case.
